Who came from the inner planes and fused his mind with mine to produce this book.

FOREWORD

After the presentation of 'Basic Laya Yoga For The New Age', the Teacher asked for a similar outline to be written about the Rays to help seekers glimpse a wider vision of creation, a greater understanding of esoteric reality and the immensity of the power and wonder of 'Life Beyond Form', The subject is vast, the totality of which is beyond human comprehension. This basic outline could be the beginning of enlightenment for some, the increase of wisdom for others, and the dawning realisation for many that there is a divine perfect plan for mankind which can bring about peace, freedom and salvation for all who seek for Truth. One should never close the mind to teachings which, at first, appear obscure. There must always be the step ahead and above to strive for, new horizons to view and reach, otherwise stagnation ensues for the one who continually turns in a small cramped, orthodox circle of existence, wearily turning the treadmill of ignorance leading to life after life of frustration and limitation in human form. Therefore ye seekers, read, think, and question, and gain the freedom to be obtained by all who are unafraid to pass through doors open under 'God's Grace', by His servants who welcome you into the joy of the Light.

 CHAPTER 1

It is stated in the Ancient Wisdom Teaching that the plan for the human scheme involves three successive Solar Systems created and governed by Cosmic Rays of tremendous power. These Rays are known as the 'SEVEN SPIRITS BEFORE THE THRONE', which are shown at the top of the Ray Chart* as seven circles named as follows:—

1. THE 1ST RAY OF WILL POWER

2. THE 2ND RAY OF LOVE WISDOM

3. THE 3RD RAY OF ACTIVE INTELLIGENCE

4. THE 4TH RAY OF HARMONY THROUGH CONFLICT

5. THE 5TH RAY OF CONCRETE KNOWLEDGE

6. THE 6TH RAY OF IDEALISM AND DEVOTION

7. THE 7TH RAY OF CEREMONIAL MAGIC AND ORDER

The Tibetan master defines a Ray as:

"A particular force or type of energy with the emphasis upon the quality it exhibits, not the form aspect it creates. The Seven Rays are the sum total of Divine Consciousness of Universal Mind. They work out the Divine purposes to bring to fulfillment the Plan of the Solar Logos working through the Planetary Logos.

Only one of the Great Cosmic Rays operate at a time to create, empower and finally destroy a Solar System. The 3rd Ray of Active Intelligence, with its sub-rays, governed the 1st Solar System, forming the Mental Plane to help mankind to develop the ability to think consciously. During this system the human units were not in physical bodies and had not separated into male and female entities.

Interest lies mainly in the present Solar System — the 2nd one — which is seen in the chart to be empowered by the 2nd Ray of Love Wisdom. The purpose of this is to develop love-wisdom in man through the recognition and conscious awareness of the soul. The male and female units are gaining wisdom through experiences they have to deal with in their efforts to find each other and unite as they were before the fall.

The next Solar System, the 3rd, will be swept into being by the 1st mighty Ray of Will Power and will complete the human scheme which had its birth in the 'Mind of God'.

The Seven Rays operating on any level are divided into:

Three Rays of Aspect called Major Rays and four Minor Rays of attribute. The three Rays of Aspect are the 1st, 2nd and 3rd, and they cover the Plan of the empowering of the Divine Will,

All souls are found upon one or another of the Seven Rays. In the present Solar System the majority of incarnating souls are 2nd Ray Beings.

In the next Solar System the majority will be on the 1st Ray of Will Power, There are no pure 1st Ray souls on earth at present, but they are being chosen for the future racial scheme.

We are told in the Ancient Wisdom Teaching that each Solar System comprises seven root races divided into seven sub-races, and that we are now in the fifth sub-race of the Fifth Root Race. The Seven Root Races are:—

1st ROOT RACE   - ADAMIC

2nd ROOT RACE    - HYPERBOREAN

3rd ROOT RACE    - LEMURIAN (during which man

decended into flesh) 4th ROOT RACE     - ATLANTEAN 5th ROOT RACE     — ARYAN (the present root race) 6th and 7th ROOT RACES ARE YET TO COME. Having passed through the complete 1st Solar System, plus four and a half root races of this second system, it is obvious that INVOLUTION has changed to EVOLUTION and mankind is on the road to return to the 'Source'. Therefore the importance of enlightening human beings as to their real nature and purpose is growing and the prophecy of Jesus that all hidden truth would be revealed, is being fulfilled in the esoteric teachings and practices which are flooding the world, it is a growing tide that will one day destroy the power of the 'abomination that makes desolate' and break the chains of negative domination which has restricted man's free thinking and inhibited his spiritual growth,

' According to interpretation, the 'abomination that makes desolate' is the wrong and distorted teachings which create separation, domination, fear, hatred and war. It is mentioned in the Book of Daniel several times and Jesus referred to it in Mathew and in Mark.

The Four Minor Rays of Attribute: 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th condition the myriads of manifesting forms as well as the personalities of men and women. They bring out the different aspects of human nature and qualify potential human creative power.

The Great Cosmic Second Ray of Love-Wisdom governing this present universe is conditioned into seven sub-rays by the Solar Logos and radiated out to all forms comprising His System, They are the seven PLANETARY rays depicted in the Ray Chart. It is with these sub-rays that this outline is concerned because they create, sustain and condition all life forms upon the earth. Each Planetary ray divides itself into seven sub-rays and these in turn do likewise. The process of differentiation is carried on until every life form, ceil and atom is governed. Thinking of this, one sees the truth behind the statement:

'Every hair on your head is numbered', because every hair comes into being, has its life cycle and death through a sub-ray of some degree. Everything is living though Ray Power, and when the possible permutations of millions of sub-ray division is considered, one begins to view with great awe the amazing Plan of Logoi for humanity and its scheme. Man is a sevenfold being capable of developing conscious awareness upon seven planes:—

1.   The Plane of Divinity       —Ray 1

2.  The Plane of the Monad   -Ray 2   THE THREE RAYS OF ASPECT

3.   The Plane of Spirit        —Ray 3

4.   The Plane of Intuition      —Ray 4

5.   The Mental Plane         —Ray 5

6.   The Astral Plane         -Ray 6   THE FOUR RAYS OF ATTRIBUTE

7.   The Physical Plane        —Ray 7

Mans goal is to evolve until he can function consciously on all the Planes. The Planetary Rays are always manifesting in cyclic rhythm, waxing and waning in strength, creating certain vibrational patterns to which all planetary life responds. This response brings about evolutionary activity in all kingdoms in nature, ensuring the ultimate transmutation necessary to fulfill the Plan.

The mineral, animal, and human kingdoms are empowered mainly by two specific rays. The vegetable kingdom is the exception, being influenced by three rays. In time a third ray will be added to the other kingdoms,

The mineral kingdom is governed by the 1st and 7th Rays. During the next sub-race (the 6th sub-race of the present 5th root race, the Aryan), Ray 2 will begin to influence it also.

The Vegetable Kingdom is already influenced by three Rays: the 2nd, 4th and 6th.

The Animal Kingdom is empowered by 3rd and 6th at present but in the next Root Race (Sixth) the Ray of Concrete Knowledge will come into play. The Human Kingdom comes under the 4th and 5th Rays, in time Ray 1 will be added The Kingdom of Souls responds to 2nd and 5th to which Ray 4 will be joined in power.

Of the seven Planetary rays two are predominant at any given time, and as they grow in greater strength than the remaining five, they usher in changes in every aspect of planetary life, expecially the human. As the Rays wax and wane they bring changes in customs, speech, manners and behaviour patterns of individuals and races, they bring to birth empires and civilisations, condition their development and cause their destruction. The Rays bring into being new species and destroy others: they change the colours of vegetation: under the waxing 2nd and 6th Rays the predominant colour of flowers was blue: the incoming 1st and 7th Rays will create more red, orange and violet.

White is always present under any ray influence, All rays are always manifesting, working out their purposes m their cycles of time. They are said to be the sevenfold expression of the Cosmic Christ, the second Person of the Trinity. They create the whole field of expression for Manifesting Deity in our Solar System. Many will ask of what benefit is it to study the rays? For the ordinary man it could shed light on many problems and give answers to questions never obtained before. For the would be server it brings spiritual and mental development, which is of great importance and very necessary to successful co-operation in working with groups and aims. In the past men have been taught to have faith and trust in outside sources for help and guidance. This belief was strengthened by so called miracles attributed to intervention on the part of God, but the power behind the manifestations, and the creation of them was not understood or realised. In spite of the profound truth of the statement that, 'The Kingdom of God is within you' , men continued to seek outside of themselves for aid, and through the predominant power of the 2nd and 6th planetary rays, became blind, fanatical devotees of religious teachings, ideals, dogmas and creeds.

They struggled to reach goals which, in reality, were already within themselves, if only they had the necessary knowledge and ability to realise and manifest the Divine Power already theirs. Presently the 2nd and 6th ray power is waning and the 1 st and 7th increasing, bringing about changes in the development of man as a thinking, intelligent. self-realised unit. This is giving rise to the 'Will Power', attitudes, often distorted, which are increasing among those who insist upon doing as they wish, regardless of the suffering caused to others. The 7th Ray is bringing about the formation of groups, societies and similar bodies in greater numbers than ever before. Banner waving and demands backed by violence, show clearly the result of a reaction to the two waxing Rays of Will Power and order. They are empowering good and evil, which might be considered unfortunate from the personal point of the victims of such empowerment, The strengthening of these two rays in bringing out all the hidden qualities in man's nature. The good is greater, the evil more evident, as it bubbles to the surface to be seen and reported on by the media.

When men learn of the power and life behind physical forms, they will begin to live according to the laws governing them and know the method and purpose of Their creation. They will recognise the reality of the Permanent Spirit within the Impermanent Flesh and work with that reality and not the illusion of the form life. They will learn to use Soul Power with active intelligence, to co-operate with and work in the Divine Plan of Salvation for themselves and all life, consciously and sincerely. Therefore, the increased knowledge gained by the study of the rays, revealing the truth of the inner Divinity, will help

man to live as part of the One Great Life instead of a separate unit of the illusion created by form. Knowledge of the rays will be of great help in increasing the understanding of human behaviour.

The Rays are in constant movement, working to subjugate matter, develop soul consciousness and fulfill the Divine Plan, Each Ray has its own sound which sets in motion the forces working in unison with it. Every human being is swept into physical form on the impulses of some ray, and coloured and conditioned by the ray quality, which indicates his way and helps him eventually to sense and co-operate with his ray-purpose. The work of the student is to discover which ray works through his soul, personality, mental body, astral body and physical body. When this is accomplished he can truly say, 'I KNOW MYSELF'. Those who have some knowledge of the centres or chakras found in the etheric body will realise one day that each is empowered by one of the Rays. Man's personality comprising the physical, etheric, astral and lower form-making mind is governed by a ray called the "Personality Ray'. This ray changes from life to life until experience is gained on all seven rays. 'The Higher Personality', comprises the higher formless mind, the casual body and the soul which is governed by a ray which varies from time to time. This Soul Ray, as spiritual growth increases, begins to dominate the personality ray type. Disciples on different rays will go through the same experiences in order to arrive at divine goals even though their qualities, reactions, mode of approach and individual nature will differ according to their ray type.

When two people of advanced type have the same Soul Ray, producing mutual understanding, together with the same personality Ray, an unbreakable link joins them in a perfect union in marriage, relationship or friendship — but this is very seldom found, When the physical forms are imperfect, ray energy is distorted and weakened. This accounts for many of the differences seen in people regarding the type and strength of manifestation in the world.

CHAPTER 2

THE SEVEN RAY LORDS

When considering a basic outline of each of the Seven Rays the words of the beloved Tibetan Master cannot be improved upon, only simplified and condensed for the better understanding of beginners on the Path. All credit due to His great wisdom is fully and gratefully given. May He be blessed forever.

THE 1ST RAY LORD OF WILL-POWER

The following are some of the names by which this great power is known:—

LORD OF DEATH              LORD OF THE BURNING GROUND OPENER OF THE DOOR         WILL THAT BREAKS INTO THE

GARDEN LIBERATOR FROM FORM         RAVISHER OF SOULS GREAT ABSTRACTOR           FINGER OF GOD FIERY ELEMENT PRODUCING     BREATH THAT BLASTS SHATTERING

CRYSTALISER OF THE FORM      LIGHTNING WHICH ANNIHILATES POWER THAT TOUCHES AND     MOST HIGH WITHDRAWS

As one studies the 1st Ray of Will-Power and learns something of His purpose, many of His names which at first seem obscure become clarified, and something of His nature and activity is understood, THE LORD OF DEATH:

This name reveals the power of the Angel of Death that fulfills God's Purpose when the fiat goes forth to any form which has completed its time cycle and must be destroyed. THE OPENER OF THE DOOR:

Jesus told His disciples that it was necessary for Him to die in order that the work could go forward and the plan completed. The 1st Ray opens the door to expansion for all evolving life. LIBERATOR FROM FORM;

All material forms limit soul expression, and liberation from the prison of physical matter is a great blessing in truth. GREAT ABSTRACTOR:

The 1st Ray governs minerals, and combined with other Rays can obtain the release of inner potency such as radio activity and atomic energy, FIREY ELEMENT PRODUCING SHATTERING:

Heat in varying degrees creates changes in matter. Think upon this.

CRYSTALISER OF THE FORM:

Here time is indicated which completes the purpose of any material

form.

POWER THAT TOUCHES AND WITHDRAWS:

The Will-Power conceives a plan and then leaves it to materialise under natural law. This is seen when a person suddenly has an idea or plan and is determined to carry it out saying 'I WILL', LORD OF THE BURNING GROUND:

Here is indicated the 'Angel of the Flaming Sword', who guards the 'Tree of Knowledge' (Genesis Ch. 3v, 24), Purification by fire. WILL THAT BREAKS INTO THE GARDEN:

Man by his efforts and will creates that which, born of desire, is dear to his heart, but it comes to an end, destroyed by the Will- Power Ray. RAVISHER OF SOULS:

It helps man to obtain Soul consciousness, destroying the domination of the lower nature. FINGER OF GOD;

Empowering the servants of Cod, it carries out His Plan, working through all forms. Called by some the 'Finger of Fate'. BREATH THAT BLASTS:

The invincible, irrisistable, irrevocable, purpose of change. LIGHTNING THAT ANNIHILATES:

Power of destruction in fulfillment of the Law of Karma. Jesus activated this power when He cursed the fig tree which withered (Matthew Ch. 21 v. 19). The axe that is laid to the roots (Matthew Ch. 3 v. 10). The fire into which unfruitful trees are cast. MOST HIGH:

The Will of God Most High using power to manifest Divine Blessing.

The manifestation and purpose of the 1st Ray is understood only by the Masters of High Degree, Man sees the results of its action in the destruction of forms when their cycle is ended, humans have always sought answers to the questions regarding death and decay throughout the ages, and have tried to placate the 'Angel of Death and Destruction' by sacrifices, offerings, rituals, prayers and magical practices as well as the healing arts. Impelled by strong emotion, man asks why loved ones die, until they learn acceptance of the Will through the understanding of life beyond the grave and the release of the spirit from the prison of flesh as a gift from God's Love by the action of His Son of Will-Power and realising that death itself is painless. Only man's sin, ignorance and folly creates the suffering which so often precedes it.

It is said that each great Ray Lord embodies a sacred planet, and that the 1st Ray planet is Vulcan, hidden by the sun. His colours are red and orange, the colours of the rising and the setting of the sun, This could be behind the ancient Egyptian worship of Amon-Ra the Sun God who was given a different name at sunrise, noon and sunset. It must be remembered that all human beings are the 'Children of the Sub-rays' which create all types. As stated before, there are no 1st Ray souls incarnate at present, only people with some 1st Ray sub-ray power in some part of the nature. The presence and strength of manifested characteristics can give a clue to the Ray Type and to the sub-rays activating a human being, but this would only be clearly seen by an advanced Initiate, The 1st Ray is growing in strength, and working through the Planetary sub-rays, is bringing into human nature the determination to achieve desired fulfillment in all fields of expression from the lower forms of self-indulgence to the scientific aims of men and the highest aspirations of seeking minds and souls. Thus will be seen the truth of the prophesy that,'' In the latter days the evil will grow more evil and the good more good". In other words, 1st Ray Power will stimulate man's desires and activities. The present day difficulties are said to be caused by a 1 st Ray Initiate working from Astral levels,

If there is a predominance of 1st Ray governing the physical body, (This includes the ethenc sheath), one sees a person with determination to succeed in physical attainment in any display of physical superiority in labouring, sport or fighting, A 1st Ray emotional body would manifest as one who could use emotion to gain their desires, Orators, actors and politicians reach great heights with 1st Ray Power on their Astral level. Some teachers and authors gain fame by appealing to human emotions and so sway opinions, It works on the negative side in confidence tricksters who in deceiving their victims by stirring interest via emotional desire, usually greed. Even salesmen who sell dubious goods by false emotional representation could have 1st Ray astral governance of some degree. 1 st Ray Power upon the mental level could manifest as extreme good or extreme evil, both types becoming leaders in their field of activity because the 1st Ray Power is the principle governing the head. If 7th Ray Power is combined with 1st Ray in the personality a leader or organiser of strong calibre would be seen as either a fearless worker for good and righteousness or a cruel relentless tyrant, both types having great ability to organise and command. The chief fear of a 1st Ray type is failure to achieve ambition, gain recognition or to dominate associates, relations or circumstances. This group of negative 1st Ray persons work through governments, politics and the interplay between nations and groups.

They are few in number, The 1st Ray who fails to overcome this fear could become a 'Destroyer of Souls' as it is called, and be condemned, until he learns his lesson, to work in the forces of matter and forms which hold all souls in prison. Of this type the Devil is the great prototype. Many people who are physically disabled are paying off Karmic debt because 1st Ray sinners usually have heavy debts to pay. Even so, in most cases the glory of the Ray manifests in the superb courage displayed in dealing with their handicaps and limitations, surprising those around them and exciting universal admiration. The Tibetan Master sums up the 1st Ray type as follows:— ' 'Those on this Ray have strong will power for good or evil. For good when will is directed by wisdom and made selfless by love. First Ray man will always come to the front in his own line. He could be a criminal or the judge who condemns him, but in either case he will be at the head of his profession. He is the born leader in any and every public career. One to trust and lean on. One to defend the weak and put down oppression. Fearless of consequences and utterly indifferent to comment. On the other hand an unmodified 1st Ray can produce a man of unrelenting cruelty and hardness of nature. First Ray beings often have strong feeling and affection but do not readily express it. He will love strong contrasts and masses of colour but will rarely be an artist. he will delight in great sounds, and if modified by 4th, 6th and 7th Rays, may be a great composer. There is a type of 1st Ray which is tone deaf and another colour blind to the more delicate colours, He will distinguish red and yellow but confuse blue, green and violet. The literary work will be strong and trenchant, but show little care fo style and finish. In healing the best method would be to draw health and strength from the great point of universal life by Will-Power, then pour it through the patient. This he would do if he had the necessary occult knowledge. The method of seeking for perfection would be by sheer force of will, almost taking the Kingdom 'By Violence'. The born leader belongs to this Ray wholly or in part, and many great world leaders are found on the 1st Ray of Will-Power.

Spiritual Virtues: Strength, courage, steadfastness, truthfulness arising from fearlessness, capacity to grasp great questions in a rounded way. Can handle men and measures.

Vices: Pride, ambition, willfulness, hardness, obstinacy, anger, desire to control others, unforgivingness.

Virtues to be acquired: Tenderness, humility, sympathy, tolerance, patience, sharing,

All rays have a higher and lower expression. The higher 1st Ray expression is statesmanship, government and leadership of the right kind.

The lower expression is diplomacy and politics in all groups.

CHAPTER 3

THE SECOND RAY LORD OF LOVE-WISDOM

"The 1st and 2nd Rays of Will-Power and Love-Wisdom are the two main characteristics of the Divine Nature in all forms. In time these two energies will dominate all life, driving the created world on to a full display of that nature. This is true of Gods and men." (The Tibetan).

Some of the names of the 2nd Ray Lord of Love-Wisdom. DISPLAYER OF GLORY          LORD OF ETERNAL LOVE COSMIC MAGNET              GIVER OF WISDOM RADIANCE IN FORM            MASTER BUILDER COSMIC MYSTERY             ONE WHO HIDES THE LIFE LIGHT BRINGER                CONFERER OF NAMES GREAT GEOMETRICIAN         SON OF GOD INCARNATE

It is important when studying this Ray to remember that the present second Solar System is governed by the Great Cosmic Second Ray, (see chart), and therefore the 2nd Ray, in any degree, is the principle energy displayed by God in His Divine Purpose for the race of men. All men must learn to love wisely if they wish to return to the source of All Love.

THE DISPLAYER OF GLORY:

This name reveals the glory of Divine Love working out in the wise ordering of the Heavenly Father. COSMIC MAGNET:

"I will draw all men unto me" RADIANCE IN FORM:

The Light of God which shines through the righteous. Here is a clue to the 'Transfiguration' (Luke Ch. 9 v. 29) and the light on the face of Moses when he came down from the mountain after receiving the commandments. COSMIC MYSTERY:

The purpose of God is hidden from men until they become perfected. LIGHT BRINGER:

Wisdom illumines the minds of men and sheds light upon the Path. GREAT GEOMETRICIAN:

This indicates the pattern of life created by the law of attraction. This is also concerned with the 'Science of Triangles', about which most people know nothing.

LORD OF ETERNAL LOVE:

Divine love that changes not.

GIVER OF WISDOM:

This refers to revelation.. It gives a clue to the understanding of the saying "To him that hath, shall be given and to him that hath not, shall be taken away that which he hath". (Matthew Ch. 25 v. 29). All great Masters advise the gaming of wisdom and understanding. MASTER BUILDER:

The power that grants the opportunity to progress towards perfection, by building the lives giving the necessary experiences leading to spiritual goals. It is responsible for re-incarnation, insofar as it creates the urge to be born into form. ONE WHO HIDES THE LIFE:

The real is hidden in the unreal. Flesh veils spirit. Form veils life, CONFERER OF NAMES:

The meaning of sound is touched upon here. The Word. True names are of great importance. In Isaiah Ch. 62 v. 2 it is stated: "And thou shalt be called by a new name which the mouth of the Lord shall name".

SON OF GOD INCARNATE:

The Cosmic Christ. The Holy Spirit which can incarnate in form,

The Great Cosmic Ray of Love-Wisdom, being the power behind the Plan of God for our Planetary Scheme via the Logos of the present Solar System, tells us that the purpose of Deity is the fulfillment of Perfected Love in His Manifestation through the human race. During the power cycle of the 2nd and 6th Planetary Rays men should have learned to love wisely. This, in the main, they have failed to do, bringing into being the warnings given out by the Hierarchy of the penalties for such failing and the distorted interpretations of 'Time is running out', and the 'End of the world' predictions. The last verse of the Old Testament contains a statement regarding the result of man's failure to love: 'Lest I come and smite the earth with a curse' (Malachi Ch. 4 v. 6). Is it possible that the 'Wrath to come' may manifest during the reign of the 1st Ray of Will-Power cycle dawning on the horizon?,

The 2nd Planetary Ray of Love-Wisdom is waning in power, bringing about great changes in human thought, outlook and behaviour. The fanatical domination of religious creeds, brought about by a combination of the 2nd and 6th Rays, is now losing its hold over people who are becoming thinkers and whose desire for freedom of expression is being strengthened by the growing power of the 1st and 7th Rays. The second Ray has been dominant since 1575 and combined with the 6th Ray of Idealism and Devotion and some sub-ray influence, could have been responsible for the religious reforms which manifested then, especially the Reformation and the fanatical struggles between the Spanish Catholics and the Moors, and the Catholics and Protestants who even quarrelled among themselves eventually. The 2nd Ray is the great teaching Ray upon which is found the Christ and the Buddha. It creates the urge for bliss through the satisfaction of desire springing from love. This includes the wish of souls to incarnate in flesh in order to experience that which leads to awareness on higher planes. It empowers the heart centre in the etheric body, instilling love for others as well as stimulating the activity of the inner crown centre manifesting as love of God. On the path of discipleship it creates consciousness and expansion leading to initiation. On this Ray is found the true psychic. Gardeners may be interested to learn that the 2nd Ray is related to the vegetable kingdom, creating beauty, colour and perfume in the flora of the world, expressing its power mainly through grains and flowers. It enables vegetation to draw sustenance from sun and soil, transforming it into attractive food for men and animals. Working with the 4th and 6th Rays it results in magnetism, colour, perfume and need for light. It works in inspiration and the auric radiation. It brings into manifestation the reflections of that which is above, (as above so below). According to the beloved Tibetan Master, the higher expression of the 2nd Ray is the process if initiation as taught by the Hierarchy of Masters and the lower expression is religion. The planets associated with this Ray are Jupiter and Neptune. The colours are light blue and indigo with a little purple. It is concerned with the realisation of the brotherhood of man and the Fatherhood of God. The fear of 2nd Ray people is of evil of any kind, and they are very prone to strengthen their fear by thinking about it and energising it (Energy follows thought). Failure to overcome this negative practice often results in a 'Deluder of Souls' who, working through religion, philosophy and ritual, distort the truth, deceive themselves and other. here is found the real Anti Christ who through false teachings and so called miracles cause men to believe in the great illusion. The growing light of truth is slowly destroying this illusion to set mankind free from its domination. The deluders are the largest in number at the present time.

The great message of this glorious Ray is found in the words of Jesus:

'Learn to love and love will set you free'.

The descripion of a 2nd Ray type is given by the Tibetan as follows:

"The 2nd Ray person desires pure knowledge and absolute truth. Cold and selfish if without love, inactive without power. When love and power are present you have the Ray of the Buddha and all great teachers of humanity, who, having obtained wisdom, spend themselves in giving it forth for the sake of others. He is never satisfied with his highest attainments and his mind is fixed on greater heights of knowledge. Second Ray people have tact and foresight and make good ambassadors, teachers, statesmen and college heads. As a man of affairs he will have clear intelligence and wisdom in dealing with matters and the ability to impress true views of things on others. He is a good business man if modified by 4th, 5th and 7th Rays. A soldier on the 2nd Ray would plan wisely and foresee possibilities. He would have intuition and never lead men into danger through rashness. He might lack quick action and energy. The 2nd Ray artist would always teach through his art. His literary work would be instructive. Healing method would be to learn the temperament of the patient and the nature of the disease so as to use will power on the case. The method of taking the path would be by earnest study of the teachings until they become part of his consciousness to no longer be intellectual knowledge but a spiritual rule of living. A bad type of 2nd Ray would seek knowledge for himself alone, with indifference to human needs. The foresight would become suspicion and calmness into coldness and hardness of nature".

Spiritual Virtues: Calmness, strength, patience, endurance, love of truth, faithfulness, intuition, clear intelligence, serene temper.

Vices: Over-absorbtion in study, coldness, indifference to others and contempt of mental limitation in others.

Virtues to be acquired: Love, compassion, unselfishness, energy, serenity and open heartedness.

It must be emphasised that the 2nd Ray of Love-Wisdom is the Ray Purpose of our Solar Logos and all who seek for freedom from rebirth and the domination of the flesh must pass upon it through Initiation to the Kingdom of the Soul.

THE THIRD RAY LORD OF ACTIVE INTELLIGENCE

The 3rd great Cosmic Ray of Active Intelligence empowered the 1st Solar System of our human scheme (see Ray Chart), Therefore the 3rd Planetary Ray was the most potent during that 1st System. As stated before, our present Solar System (the 2nd) is empowered by the 2nd Cosmic Ray of Love-Wisdom and so the most potent Planetary Ray now is also the 2nd Ray, Therefore the work of the 3rd Ray in our system is to co-operate with the two 2nd Rays (Cosmic and Planetary) of Love-Wisdom in order to synthesise Love-Wisdom with intelligence and adaptability and to manifest it through form life, Thus it is seen that 3rd Ray power is closely linked with matter. It played a great part during the 1st Solar system in motivating the impulse in the initial work of creation and the desire of the human units to descend into flesh.

The 3rd Planetary Ray has been strong for approximately 500 years, affecting the present Aryan race. Its aim is to stimulate intelligence in man, and this is seen when the advances made in science, technology and education of the masses in all fields of knowledge are considered. Its Higher Expression is communication of all kinds, and transportation, The Lower expression is the use of money and gold as the currency of most lands. It produces intelligence and adaptability in man, and also in animals as demonstrated in the advancement among domesticated types. Blended with the 6th Ray it helps in

creating the devotion ot animals lor their human trainers. Today there is a closer relationship between men and animals. It is seen ever, between men and birds and fishes and reptiles. This is part of a Divine experiment to develop soul consciousness in form in both human and animal kingdoms. The 3rd Ray fosters the intelligence to desire to eat and drink and to distinguish the scent which discovers acceptable food and that which identifies other species and also that of a beloved master. The mass of intelligent humanity as well as the domesticated animals are found on the 3rd Ray of Active Intelligence.

The fear of a 3rd Ray individual would manifest as failure to reach desired mental goals through circumstances beyond their control, such as ill-health, lack of educational facilities, or the need for physical action to support life instead of the time and opportunity to study in desired fields of knowledge and research. If these fears are fostered a 3rd Ray type could become a 'manipulator of souls', using the mind to stress the importance of material things over the true worth .-:

spiritual enlightenment. They work through commercialism, the use of money and energy for material gain, and the power of sexual attraction,

It is said that the planet of the 3rd Ray is Saturn, his Day — Saturday and the colours are Black and Green, although the Primary Colour are Yellow and Violet,

This Ray is very potent in these days of advancement in culture science, and education. It produced all forms and is now concerned with the mental unfoldment which is a marked characteristic of humani ly. THE THIRD RAY TYPE:

The 3rd Ray is the ray of the abstract thinker, the philosopher and the metaphysician and higher mathematician, but who, unless modified by some practical ray such as the 5th of Concrete Knowledge, would hardly trouble to keep his accounts accurately. His imagination will be highly developed and through that faculty he could grasp the essence of a truth, idealism will often be strong, he is a dreamer and a theorist, From his wide views and great caution he sees every side of a question clearly, which sometimes paralises his action. He will make a good business man. As a soldier he will work out tactics at a desk and not be great in the field. As an artist his technique is not fine but his subject will be full of thought and interest. He will love music but unless influenced by the 4th Ray will not produce it. He is

full of ideas but too impractical to carry them out. One type of 3rd Ray is unconventional, slovenly, unpunctual and idle regardless of appearances and opinions. If influenced by 5th Ray as a secondary ray this type is changed, making the perfectly balanced historian who grasps his subject in a large way and verifies every detail accurately. It can also bring forth a great mathematician. The literary style is often vague and involved but if influenced by 1st, 4th, 5th or 7th Rays he could become a master of the pen. The healing method would be by the use of drugs made of herbs or minerals belonging to the patients own ray. The method of spiritual growth would be by deep thinking on philosophical or metaphysical lines until he is led to the realisation of the great Beyond and of the paramount importance of treading the path that leads to it.

Spiritual Virtues: Wide views on abstract questions, sincerity of purpose, clear intellect, ability to concentrate on philosophical studies, patience, caution, no tendency to worry himself or others over trifles.

Vices: Intellectual pride, coldness, isolation, inaccuracy in details, absent mindedness, obstinacy, selfishness, overmuch criticism of others.

Virtues to be acquired: Sympathy, tolerance, devotion, accuracy, energy, commonsense.

The Tibetan Master says that the 3rd Ray of Intelligent Activity or Adaptability governs the entire career of the race by causing the fusion of spirit and matter through soul evolution. This will result in recognition of the reality of the soul and the appreciation of the divinity of matter as the outer garment of God, It will bring to a high point of perfection the control of matter on the physical plane during the Aryan race. (This is seen in the striving for physical perfection in athletics etc. and also in physical phenomena of some types of mediums).

THE FOURTH RAY LORD OF HARMONY THROUGH CONFLICT

The fourth Ray of harmony Through Conflict is concerned with beauty and its creation in all aspects of human endeavour. It must be remembered that in this basic outline the work of the Rays is con­sidered principally from the point of the human kingdom, which is only a small part of the Divine Purpose. The 4th Ray is seen in every being in the 4th Kingdom (The human), and is always in manifestation in some degree, stimulating in man creative ideas, plans and desires. 'Harmony Through Conflict', may seem to be a strange title, but when the effort and sacrifice needed to bring into physical manifestation most, if not all, creative ideas is considered, together with the pain of frustrated creation in trying to give form to ideas ranging from simple disappoint­ment to black despair, a clearer understanding of the name is obtain­ed. It brings forth harmony in sounds, colours, literature and all expressions of rythmn and beauty from the world of causes created by the three Rays of Aspect (1st, 2nd and 3rd). The 4th Ray produces perfection within the form showing it to be truly the temple of the inner life, It is mainly expressed on the formless plane and its true purpose is seen when soul consciousness is awakened. Then, at that point, a man has learned to synthesise soul and body as a channel for spirit. The 4th Ray is the bridge between the higher and lower realms, helping all developing units to evolve as it governs the sum total of the human kingdom. It is the Ray of the higher nature of the race of men giving harmony through conflict and power to gain knowledge through wise and correct choice.

It will wax stronger to influence the next Root Race (the 6th), It pro­duces the desire or love nature of the Planetary Logos in the human kingdom, and the organising of the perfecting of forms through group

 interplay. The ancient Egyptian beliefs were influenced by 4th Ray power bringing forth the fantastic buildings and art forms of those early days. It is active in the destinies of India, Germany, Italy, Austria and Brazil to name a few.

The higher expression of 4th Ray is group work, such as, the Masonic Orders based on the formation of the Hierarchy and related to the 2nd Ray.

The lower expression is building and modern city planning.

The key to the 4th Ray is very revealing of its purpose. 'Let the outer glory pass away and the beauty of the inner light reveal the One, Let dissonance give way to harmony and from the centre of the hidden light let the Soul speak. Let the Word roll forth. Beauty and Glory veil me not. I stand revealed. I am.' The 4th Ray type:

This Ray has been called the 'Ray of Struggle', because the quality of activity and inertia are so in proportion that the 4th Ray man is torn with their combat, The outcome when successful is spoken of as 'Rebirth', often through pain and suffering. Activity is fiery, ever urging to action, (Consider the feverish activity of people who are determin­ed to create from an idea or plan). Inertia is love of ease, pleasure, indolence, hatred of causing pain amounting to moral cowardice, pro­crastination, a desire to let things be, to rest and take no thought for tomorrow, These forces in the nature make life one perpetual war­fare and unrest for the 4th Ray man. It may produce rapid evolution or a 'ne'er-do-well'. It is the Ray of the dashing hero, reckless of risks to himself or his men and who will lead a forlorn hope. One who gambles and speculates wildly, full of enthusiasm and plans, easily downed by failure but as quickly recovering from all reverses and misfortunes.

As an artist his colour will always be great but whose drawing may often be defective. If not an artist, a colour sense will appear in other ways, in dress or decorations etc. In music the compositions are always full of melody because a 4th Ray type loves a tune. As a writer or poet his work will often be brilliant, full of picturesque words but inaccurate, full of exaggerations and often pessimistic. He will talk well with a sense of humour but varying between brilliant conversations and gloomy silences according to his mood. A delightful and difficult person to live with.

In healing the best method is massage and magnetism used with knowlege. The method of the Path will be by self control, so gaining balance among the warring forces of the nature. The lower very dangerous     way      is      by      Hatha      Yoga.

Vices: Self-centredness, worrying, inaccuracy, passion, indolence, extravagance, lack of moral courage.

Along the line of 4th Ray emerges aspirants, struggling well-meaning people and workers for peace and unity. Ray 4 is very potent in the vegetable kingdom (2nd kingdom). It is the life expression itself through the grasses and smaller forms of vegetable life. it provides the 'green carpet whereon the angels dance',

CHAPTER 6

THE FIFTH RAY LORD OF CONCRETE KNOWLEDGE

The purpose of the 5th Ray of Concrete Knowlege is to reveal the mind of God to man through knowledge gained by mental illumina­tion and to understand that love is the power behind all manifestation. It is on the mental levels that the 5th Ray is most active. The lower or concrete mind and the higher abstract mind as well as the soul mind are the spheres of the activity of this great Ray of Light which is in touch with Divine Mind. The higher expression of the 5th Ray is the Science of the Soul and Esoteric Psychology. This indicates a connec­tion with Laya Yoga and the Science of the Centres in all kingdoms. The lower expression is in educational systems and mental science.

This is the 'Law of Cleavages' brought about by the 5th Ray. It helps a man to see the past, present and future on the path and to leave behind the past and press on into the light. WINNOWER OF THE CHAFF:

This enables a man to cast aside that which is impermanent and unim­portant by mental recognition of truth. Non-attachment is thus created. FIFTH GREAT JUDGE:

Turns the searchlight onto the thoughts of man revealing the point of spirituality reached, 'As a man thinketh so is he'.

ROSE OF GOD:

Here is indicated the close connection between the 5th Ray and the 2nd Ray of Love-Wisdom which is our Solar Ray from the beautiful Divine Centre. HEAVENLY ONE:

Manifesting the gift of mind and the reflection of Divine Mind. DOOR INTO THE MIND OF GOD:

This speaks for itself but also reveals the door of initiation. INITIATING ENERGY:

Spurring man on to seek and study, learn and create with wisdom.

RULER OF THE THIRD HEAVEN:

St Paul made a reference to the 3rd Heaven in his 2nd letter to the Corinthians, the 12th Chapter, verses 2—4.

GUARDIAN OF THE DOOR:

Time is indicated here, and the opening of the portal of initiation at the correct point in time when the aspirant is ready and developed, DISPENSER OF KNOWLEDGE:

Giving the ability to absorb knowledge and make the resultant wisdom a permanent part of life.

ANGEL WITH THE FLAMING SWORD:

In this context the sword is not for attack but to defend the true fruit of the tree of knowledge from polution by distortion. Only to those whose hearts aspire and whose minds are God-orientated will the fruit be given.

KEEPER OF THE SECRET:

This refers to the secret revealed by the 'Voice of Silence', BELOVED OF THE LOGOS:

Love is able to manifest because the 5th Ray helps a man to fulfill the Plan of the Lord of Love-Wisdom which is the purpose of our Solar Lord.

BROTHER FROM SIRIUS:

The power which brings light and guidance from the members of what is called 'The Great White Lodge' on Sirius.

MASTER OF THE HIEROPHANTS:

The energy used by the Masters to help mankind to develop the mind and mental faculties in all fields,

The 5th Ray of Concrete Knowledge is very potent in the relation­ship between the animal and human kingdoms. It is also powerful in this 5th Root Race with the process of transference from the human to the spiritual kingdom through increased consciousness. It is a pure channel for the Divine Will flowing through the higher mind. Students should contrast the building power of higher mind with the destroy­ing power of the lower mind which should be the channel for the in­flow of pure higher mind energy. The 5th Ray Lord brought into activity seven corresponding centres in Earth that reflect Deity through sacrifice and effort, which is comparable with the life of the Buddha. This is why love and mind must eventually reveal each other in this Root Race.

The 5th Ray reveals the way into death or into incarnation, (The death­like prison of the soul), or it reveals the way out of darkness into God's Light because its effect is to increase knowledge and develop human intellect, thereby producing increased awareness of God. It is increas­ing in power and will stimulate all scientific work, in approach to truth, in all fields of human thought. It played a great part in the individualisa-tion of the human race during the 3rd Root Race (Lemurian) and it is the secondary Ray influence in this present 5th Aryan Root Race, thus linking the two Races together. Both Races are very materialistic. The Lemurian because of the need to develop the physical form and its control, which was done through hatha yoga and which is now so perfected that it is automatic.

In the present Aryan Race men are being conditioned to control the physical forces of the planet and the universe but at the same time effort is made to perfect physical bodies although the goal is mental atonement. One effect of this development is the power to organise and work individually with definite purpose. Students should study the qualities of the 5th Ray as they could reveal whether they are on it in any degree and discover what has to be done to express or over­come it. They should be studied from the angle of divine form and aspect so that application can be made to daily life.

The qualities of the 5th Ray are:

3. The power to initiate activity

4. The revelation of the Way

5. Purification by fire

6. The manifestation of the Great White Light

The 5th Ray governs scientists and those centred in the mind. The planet of the 5th Ray is said to be Venus. The day is Friday and the colours Yellow and Indigo. The Key to the 5th Ray is said to be:

'Let the three forms of energy pass upward to the Place of Power. Let the forces of the head and heart and all the nether aspects blend. Then let the soul look out upon the inner world of Light Divine. Let the word triumphant go forth'.

'I mastered energy for I am energy itself. The Master and the mastered are but One.'

THE 5th RAY MAN:

This is the ray of science and research, keen intellect and great ac­curacy in detail. A 5th Ray man will work to trace the smallest fact to its source, and verify every theory. He will be very truthful and so full of explanations as to be boring at times. He will be orderly, punctual, businesslike, disliking to receive flattery or rewards. It is the ray of the great chemist, practical electrician, first rate engineer and great surgeon. As a statesman he would be narrow in his views but an excellent head of some technical department, although not plea­sant to work under. As a soldier his interest would be in artillery and engineering. The artist on this ray is rare unless modified by 4th or 7th ray energy. Colouring would be dull, sculptures lifeless, music uninteresting. Literature will be clearness itself but lacking fire and point. Very longwinded from the desire to say all that can possibly be said on his subject. In healing the method would be through surgery and electricity. The way on the Path would be by scientific research pushed to ultimate conclusions and by acceptance of the inferences drawn from these.

Special Virtues: Strictly accurate statements, justice without mercy, perseverance, commonsense, uprightness, independence and keen intellect.

Vices: Criticism, narrowness, arrogance, unforgiving temper, lack of sympathy and reverence, prejudice, condemnation.

Virtues to be Acquired: Reverence, devotion sympathy, love, wide mmdedness, understanding.

It does not require much thinking about to realise how potent this 5th Ray is at this time. Education is becoming a world wide aim. Science in all spheres is making phenomenal strides. Interest in the potential of animals to develop intelligent communication with men is causing a closer and clearer understanding of the love ties between the animal and human kingdoms and the overcoming of fear of each other.

The higher expression of 5th Ray is Science of the Soul and Esoteric psychology.

The lower expression is modern educational systems and mental science.

THE SIXTH RAY LORD OF IDEALISM AND DEVOTION

The purpose of the 6th Ray is to bring forth the realisation anc recognition of the dual nature of the reality and the form. To make man understand that he is spirit and flesh. It is responsible for the religious and philosophical beliefs that have encouraged people tc suffer for them even unto death. It is very potent upon the astral plane and although it is waning in power it is still very strong, and its effect;

are very much still in evidence. It is the best known of the seven ray;

because men are still fanatically devoted to their aims and ideals, anc this is strengthened by the incoming 7th Ray which causes men to joir together with others of like mind to achieve group goals. This, togethe] with the increasing 1st Ray power, is already causing trouble, anc therefore it is as well that the 6th Ray is weakening.

The qualities of the 6th Ray reveals something of the purpose of this Ray Lord. There is the power to oversome desire, to reject that which is not desired, to sacrifice self, to manifest dedication, fearlessness, endurance and courage, the mastering of non-attachment and the over­coming of the lower emotions.

This ray of fanatical power can bring release from form when used by a man on himself, but when used against others it creates 'man's inhumanity to man' with its appalling record of cruelty and suffering, especially in religious differences. It reveals the necessity for pain and problems as a means whereby man learns that which teaches the way of compassion and understanding, and how the troubles of form life can be overcome. It is of great help in the transmuting of focuss-ed attention from the astral emotional solar plexus centre to the heart centre, which takes place in those who realise the limitations and faults in the interpretation of truth in the particular religion or philosophy they have here-to- fore slavishly adhered to. Christianity, Buddhism and Mohammedism may have -come forth under 6th Ray influence. It developed the urge to evolve in the vegetable kingdom,, causing perfumed radiance and the blending of colours as well as determin­ing the kind of trees of the planet.

As it wanes in power it will change the blue of the flowers into the violet of the 7th Ray and also take away certain types of animals and fanatical humans. It is said that the 6th Ray colours are red and silvery rose, its planet is Mars and its day is Tuesday, The Higher Expres­sion is Christianity and various religions. This reveals its relationship to the 2nd Ray. The lower expression of the 6th Ray is found in churches and religious organisations. Christians, earnest churchmen of all world religions and fanatics are found on this ray of idealism and devotion,

The Key to the 6th Ray is written as: 'Let all desire cease. Let aspira­tion end. The search is over. Let the soul realise that it has reached the goal and from that gateway to eternal life and cosmic peace, let the word sound, I am the seeker and the sought, I rest'.

THE 6TH RAY TYPE:

He is full of religious instincts and impulses. Intense personal feel­ing. Everything is either perfect or intolerable. Friends are angels. Enemies are devils. Opinions formed on personal appeal and not in­trinsic merits. He is full of devotion to a person or cause. Must have a personal God. Best type makes a saint or martyr, the worst type a bigot or fanatic inquisitor. All religious wars come from 6th Ray fanaticism, A 6th Ray man has a gentle nature but can flare into fury. Will lay down his life for things he worships but will not help those who do not believe as he does. As a soldier he hates fighting but when roused will fight like one possesed. Never a great statesman nor a good businessman, but maybe a great preacher or orator.

He will write poetry of an emotional kind, or religious books. Devoted to beauty and colour but his productive skill is not great unless modified by 4th or 7th Rays. Music will be melodious or sacred. The method of healing would be by faith and prayer. The way of approaching the Path would be by prayer or meditation, aiming at union with God,

The 7th Ray of Order and Magic is now waxing stronger, strengthen­ing the desire and power in man to create through visualisation and to work in groups in a disciplined and orderly way. This is the Ray of Magic so called which will make possible, in the next 2,500 years, the working of miracles. The growth of groups, societies and frater­nities over the last century is a clear indication of 7th Ray power. The study and practice of mental phenomena is being undertaken by scein-tists who are at last recognising it as a reality. Eventually they will, by the power of the 7th Ray also recognise the blending of spirit and matter, as in the discovery of radium and radio activity. Seventh Ray Power will in time change the appearance of the world by affecting vegetation and animal life, by increasing man's understanding of the latent greater potential in the two kingdoms and aiding the developing of that potential. The 7th Ray will play a big part in opening the temple of hidden mysteries that were closed in Atlan-teen days. Changes will take place in the mineral kingdom and men may harness the radiating power to serve humanity. The increase of power will be seen m physical works such as lifting, rock splitting and manipulating of minerals because the 7th Ray is the Ray of magic.

The higher expression of the 7th Ray is: All forms of white magic.

The lower expression is: Psychism in its lower aspects. Seventh Ray man:

A 7th Ray man likes things done decently and in order, to rule and precedent. It is the Ray of the high Priest and court chamberlain and the soldier who is a born genius in organisation, who will dress and feed troops in the best way. It is the Ray of the perfect nurse, careful in detail though sometime disregarding of the patient's own wishes in trying to enforce routine. It makes the sculptor who creates forms of ideal beauty and designs beautiful forms and patterns, but unless influenced by 4th Ray, not a successful painter.

Literary work would be in ultra polished style thinking more of the manner than the matter in the work, He will always be fluent in writing and speech. He will delight in fixed ceremonials, processions and shows, reviews or troops and warships and in genealogical trees. A good type of 7th Ray is determined to do and say the right thing at the right moment, making for social success.

In healing he would rely on extreme exactness of orthodox treat­ment. Hatha Yoga and similar practices would not harm him. He will approach the Path through observance of rules of practice, ritual and evocation and control of the elemental forces. A bad type is superstitious, interested in omens, dreams, occult practices.

Special Virtues: Strength, perseverance, courage, courtesy, extreme care in details, self-reliance.

Vices: Formalism, bigotry, pride, narrowness, superficial judgements, self-opinionated, over-indulged.

Virtues to be Acquired: Realisation of unity, wide-mindedness, tolerance, humility, gentleness, and love.

Souls who incarnate on the 7th Ray will be able to see the devas of the etheric body because the 7th Ray controls the etheric and the devas of the ethers who are on a path to perfection along their par­ticular line of development.

As 7th Ray plays through the planetary "sacral centre and then through the human sacral centres it stimulates sexual power, the ef­fect of which is seen in the different approach and attitudes man has towards the question of sex in recent times. It is also part of the cause of todays permissiveness, but with the balancing influence of the 4th and 5th Rays mankind should learn greater wisdom and gain ability to control this influx of sexual power.

CHAPTER 9

THE STUDY OF THE RAYS

The study of the Rays is of endless interest and fascination to the earnest researcher and thinker in the sphere of understanding the Divine Plan for form life. This includes the galaxies, universes and the forms found in them. Even if the desire for knowledge is concerned only with The human scheme it is well worth considering, In the in­vestigation of the nature of man, science and research has discovered that besides being animal, man is also a psychic entity, and these two sides to human nature must be considered when dealing with the pro­blems and activities which cause disease and distress. Hence the development of psychiatries and other forms of healing such as homoeopath, natureopathy and faith and spiritual healing.

Beyond being assured by religions that man has a soul there is no proof of this, only a belief and a hope. The truth of it yet has to be substan­tiated and this can be done to the individual when the reality of the Rays is accepted. As spiritual development is taking place it is a wise student who seeks for an understanding of the truth through study, observation and application to life of the fantastic powers that govern that life. Study is always the approach to realisation in any field, often only through experience. So the study of the Rays will assist in speeding up the acceptance of man as spirit as well as flesh, his purpose and plan as conceived in the Mind of God, it is said, "As a man evolves spiritually he gains power on the Rays, not over the Rays". This is seen in the way he lives and works and is able to draw power and help when needed. Students of Laya Yoga may be interested in the rela­tionship of the Rays to the seven centres or chakras in the etheric body.

As one studies the Rays the relationship between them and the endless permutations reveals more and more the wonder of the Divine Life. For example, the following are some of the relationships between the waning 6th Ray and the waxing 7th Ray. These should be studied, then students should be able to grasp the relationship of the immediate past to the immediate future, and see in it the working out of God's Plan and the coming salvation of the human race. SOME RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN THE 6TH AND 7TH RAYS

a. 6th Ray fostered the vision.

7th Ray will materialise that which was visioned.

b. 6th Ray produced mystics as its type of aspirant. 7th Ray will develop the white magician.

c. 6th Ray led to nationalism and sectarianism, due to the selective mind and its tendency to separate.

d. 6th Ray led to the formation of bands of disciples, working in groups, but not in close relation and subject to internal dissention based on personality reactions.

7th Ray will train and send forth groups of initiates working in unison with the Plan and with each other.

e. 6th Ray brought about the sense of duality to a humanity, regar­ding itself as a physical unity. Academic, materialistic psychologists are the exponents of this attitude.

7th Ray will create the sense of a higher unity; first that of the in­tegrated personality for the masses and secondly the fusion of soul and body for world aspirants.

6th Ray differentiated that aspect of the universal electrical energy which is modern electricity produced to serve man's material needs.

7th Ray will familiarise man with that type of electrical power pro­ducing the co-ordinating of all forms.

6th Ray produced in men's minds:

1) Knowledge of the physical plane light and electricity;

2) Knowledge of the existence of the astral light among esotericists and spiritualists.

3) Interest in physical and mental illumination.

4) Astro-physics and astronomical discoveries 7th Ray will change the theories of advance thinkers into the facts of future educational systems. Education and increased understanding of illumination in all fields will be regarded as synonymous ideals.

6th Ray taught the meaning of sacrifice. The crucifixion was the emblem of it to initiates — philanthropy to advanced man — 'being kind', to the unthinking masses.

7th Ray will bring to future initiates the idea of group service and sacrifice and usher in the age of the 'divine service'. The vision of individual giving in sacrifice and service within the group to the group ideal will be the goal of advanced thinkers in the new Age. In the rest of humanity it will foster brotherhood as the keynote of their endeavors.

6th Ray promoted the growth of individualism. Groups exist but they are usually groups of individuals gathered around an individual-7th Ray will foster group spirit, the rhythm of the group, its objec­tives and ritual working will be the basic phenomena. ]. 6th Ray gave the ability to recognise the historical Christ and develop the Christian faith, coloured by militancy and separativeness, based on a narrow idealism. 7th Ray will give man the power to recognise the Cosmic christ and produce the future scientific religion of Light, enabling man to fulfill the command of the historical Christ to permit His Light to shine forth. k. 6th Ray produced the great idealistic religions, with their vision and their very necessary narrowness needed to safeguard infant souls. 7th Ray will release developed souls from the nursery state and inaugurate the scientific understanding of the divine purpose to foster synthesis into the coming religions 6th Ray fostered separative instincts, dogmatic religion, scientific factual accuracy, the cult of patriotism and schools of thought with their doctrinal barriers and exclusiveness. 7th Ray will prepare the way for wider issues regarding the new religion, emphasising unity while barring uniformity. It will prepare for that scientific technique which will demonstrate the universal light in every form and for an internationalism which will express itself as practical brotherhood and as peace and goodwill between the peoples of the earth,

Thus is shown the beauty of the preparation made by the Sixth Great Lord of idealism for the work of the Seventh Lord of Ceremonial.

Anyone interested in learning more about the Rays should read the writings of A, A, Bailey, especially "A TREATISE ON THE SEVEN RAYS" and "THE RAYS AND THE INITIATIONS". These books were inspired by 'The Tibetan' — a Master who know a great deal about the Rays. He has this to say about the division of the Rays into the Rays of Aspect (1st, 2nd, 3rd) and the Rays of attribute (4th, 5th, 6th, 7th), "The seven brothers are all the children of the same Father, but the elder three partake of the Father's nature. The younger four resem­ble the Mother, The elder Sons go forth into the universe of stars and there they represent the Father. The younger four go forth into the universe of stars and show the nature of the One the Father loved",

The Rays are always active, waxing and waning in power as they manifest in cycles, thereby governing the birth, life span, death and rebirth of all things in the kingdoms of nature, Mineral, Vegetable, Animal, Human, Spiritual, Therefore, it is seen that they govern the process of reincarnation and also the sex relationships of all forms responding to the Law of Attraction and repulsion, and following on this the process of procreation, bringing forth, as it states in the Book of Job: "All things in their seasons". Let it be known, the Rays are the manifesting life of the great Creator, of Whom it was said in Habakkuk Ch. 3 v. 4:- "AND HIS BRIGHTNESS WAS OF THE LIGHT AND HE HAD RAYS COMING FORTH FROM HIS HAND AND THERE WAS THE HIDING OF HIS POWER".
